Resources for Returning to Work
An overview of the job search resources and funding sources available to those wanting to attend training. In this one-hour workshop, participants are introduced to the center’s services, and helped to develop a plan for funding their training/college tuition. Comprehensive information is provided on the most frequently used funding sources for people who are: laid off and receiving unemployment insurance, working parents, unemployed or underemployed, and those who may be eligible for scholarships or federal financial aid.

Commissioner Approved Training (CAT) Workshop
This workshop is for those who are currently receiving Unemployment Insurance and wish to go to school full time. CAT is permission to go to school full-time, be exempt from job search requirements, and still receive Unemployment Benefits. Learn how to apply for CAT at this one-hour workshop. You will review the CAT application and can spend computer lab time to complete the important labor market information/research part of the application.

Dislocated Worker Program Application (DWP)
For those people who have been laid off and wish to apply for funding from DWP, this is the first step. Sign up to attend this two-hour workshop.

Effective Job Search
How prepared are you for planning and conducting an effective job search? Successful job seekers must have both good information and well-developed job-hunting skills. Three important factors for a successful job search are an awareness of your goals and skills, an understanding of the labor market, and a well-planned job search campaign.

Resume Basics Lab
Drop in to this working lab to learn the basics on how to get started writing an effective resume.

Resume Critique
Once you have a draft of your resume and a job target, attend this workshop to perfect your draft and develop a strategy for marketing yourself. Attendees should provide an electronic or hard copy at least 1 hour prior to the start of the workshop and bring a copy of a job posting that they are targeting.

Interview Basics
In this workshop you will practice responding to typical interview questions and begin the necessary preparation to ace a job interview.

Internship Orientation
Designed for SSCC students who wish to register for an internship, this 1-hour orientation provides the basic information to plan for and register for an internship.

There are thousands of sites where jobs are listed on-line. These seven represent a good place to start.

  • Go2WorkSource.com. In addition to thousands of searchable local jobs, this site has a lot of resources and links for job seekers and employers.

  • The Seattle Times and Seattle Post Intelligencer both list all of their classified ads in a searchable database on this page. Good old-fashioned want ads from the local paper all together on a web page.

  • Dice.com lists approximately 79,000 jobs with 6,800 employers on-line. Job seekers may register their skills and interests to receive email alerts about appropriate listings. Lots of High Tech and IT jobs here.
